Why provide an employee help line as a staff benefit?
Make your staff feel supported by giving them access to a free employee help line. This is a cost-effective employee benefit scheme that will help retain employees, especially your key staff. It’s an invaluable staff benefit that helps employees deal with personal problems that could impact their work performance, health, and overall well-being. A staff helpline provides free and confidential support on a wide range of different issues and is therefore viewed as a key staff benefit which can help your employee recruitment processes as well as being an effective as part of your employee retention strategy.
Benefits to your business
Providing this type of employee support makes good business sense – by offering practical ways to help them through difficult times you’re hopefully helping your staff resolve their issue more quickly and therefore minimise the disruption to them and to your business.
Benefits to your business could include:
- More focused and therefore more productive employees
- Reduced absenteeism
- Reduced health costs
- Improved employee retention
- Reduced recruitment costs (fewer instances of needing to replace staff)
- Makes your business more attractive to new employees
Employee Support Programme (ESP) for SMEs
Using an employee legal helpline as part of a standard staff benefits package to manage staff attrition and new staff acquisition is usually only available to very large employers. However, we are working with a provider who is able to offer this invaluable service, known as an employee support scheme, or ESP, to smaller employers at very cost effective rates. This is similar to an EAP programme but does not include counselling.
The legal topics covered in this service are typical of those available from major EAP providers and include:
- Family law - divorce, separation, children, domestic violence and mediation
- Consumer law - purchase and hiring of goods and services, credit, and holiday problems.
- Bereavement law – advice on making wills and what to do when someone dies
- Motoring law – contesting fines and penalties, legal obligations as a vehicle owner, buying and selling cars, parking tickets, speeding, and other offences and penalties,
- Property law - buying, selling and renting property, rights and obligations as a neighbour/tenant
- Employment law - basic statutory rights as an employee, the disciplinary procedure, redundancy and dismissal, illness, misconduct, and health and safety
- Personal Injury - sustained at work or in a traffic accident, caused by errors in hospital treatment or sustained by a victim in the course of a crime.
- Tax information - inheritance tax, issues relating to self-employment, VAT and NI
As well as telephone support the service also includes access to on-line content that covers the full spectrum of legal topics. The content is regularly updated and includes downloadable document templates, a glossary of useful legal terms, and access to a professional services panel. The content can be co-branded with your company brand and provided as an on-line application on your company intranet, if appropriate.
What is costs you
The service is provided as an annual contract. We calculate the costs based on an estimated number of calls over the year. This is calculated as a percentage of the total number of employees in the scheme.
